Directly north from the appellation of Corbières, separated from it only by the River Aude and its companion, the Canal du Midi, is Minervois.

The Corbieres is one of the largest wine appellations in France, a sub-region of the Languedoc-Roussillon, located in the south of France, below Minervois and along the Mediterranean Sea.

The highest rated red wine was Château Sainte-Eulalie 2003 La Cantilène, from the Minervois appellation d'origine contrõlée (AOC) in Languedoc, France. La Cantilène is a blend of 55% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 15% Carignan[3].

In the Aude the best liked wines are Minervois and Corbières.
The Eastern Pyrenees produces natural sweet Roussillon wines, Banyuls or Rivesaltes.

In France, Muscat is best known for producing Vins Doux Naturels (Natural Sweet Wines) in Frontignan, Lunel, Mireval, St Jean De Minervois, Rivesaltes, Beaumes de Venise and Cap Corse.

Terret Noir is grown principally in the Aude, Hérault, Gard and Vaucluse wine growing regions of South-Eastern France, with some plantings in the Minervois region of South-Westerern France. However it has decreased in popularity.

The best wines are made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes, and sub-regions such as Faugères, Pic St Loup, Montpeyroux, Minervois, St Chinian and Corbières are leading the field in terms of quality.
