Wine MonbadonMondeuse Blanche

Mondeuse (red)
A peppery red variety grown in the high altitude vineyards of Savoie, also known as Refosco in north-east Italy's Friuli region.

MONDEUSE: (a.k.a Mondeuse Noir). Minor grape grown in the Savoie region of France. Usually blended with wine made from the Altesse grape to make the white wine known as "Roussette de Savoie".

The study proved that the grape had originated in the vicinity of the Northern Rhõne valley of France, as the result of a cross of the "Dureza" and "Mondeuse Blanche" grape varieties.

Other grapes known to be present in some Petite Syrah vineyards are the Mondeuse and Trousseau. Traditional Californian blends under the name of Petite Sirah are also known to have contained a proportion Barbera or Zinfandel grapewine.

DUREZAVariety reported as native to the Ard?che region of France. Recent DNA analysis has shown that it is possibly one of the parents, the other parent posited as Mondeuse, of the classic Syrah variety. (No other details as yet).

Recent DNA tests conducted in France have shown the grapes Dureza and Mondeuse Blanche to be the parents of: Syrah.
For the first time in history, the top 10 wines in Britian this year do not include wines from: France.

Wine from this grape is also purported to have been the favorite of Livia, the second wife of Augustus Caesar. Grown to a lesser extent in cooler, coastal regions of California. Mondeuse of the Savoie region of France may be a clone.
