Mosel
The area of Mosel is the part of the region which goes along the course of the homonym river up to the neighboring of the city of Koblenz.

 


Mosel-Saar-Ruwer is a German wine-growing region in the valleys of the rivers Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer near Koblenz and Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate. It is famous for its wines of Riesling, Elbling and Müller-Thurgau grapes.

The Mosel flows for 150 miles, although thanks to its meandering course it covers barely 70 miles, as the crow flies, in doing so. With each twist and turn it fashions new, vertiginous slopes from the rocky riverside.

MOSEL
The scenic river valley in Germany, a tributary of the Rhine and the source of some of the best German white wines produced from Riesling grapes.

Moselle: Same as Mosel, but now we're reading in French instead of German.
Muscatel: Wine made from Muscat grapes, usually sweet and usually high in alcohol.

Mosel, Moselle - (Mo-ZELL)
Beautiful German river valley, tributary of the Rhine, source of some of the nation's best white wines made from Riesling grapes. Also in Luxembourg, where a small amount of wine is produced.

A tributary of the Moselle River, and part of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region. The region is so cold that the Riesling grape only gets ripe enough to make fine wines a few years out of a decade.

Flowery: a nebulous term referring to an indeterminate fragrance akin to flowers in general. Mosel wines are flowery, as are some Chenin blancs, Seyval bIancs, and Aurores.

Not quite desirable in a late harvest Moselle Riesling, but appropriate in a classic Sauternes. Fatness/oiliness is determined by the naturally occurring glycerol - (a.k.a glycerin) - content in the wine.
