Rutherglen is a small town in northeastern Victoria, Australia, near the Murray River border with New South Wales. The town was named after the Scottish town of Rutherglen which lies just outside Glasgow.
Other regions The grape has also recently been planted in Australia and California, as it thrives in predominantly sunny climates. In Australia it is being introduced in the Murray Darling region with some success.
The quality of wines made in this region is very interesting and of good value, however here it is also produced a huge quantity of ordinary and cheap wines, in particular in the vineyards along the course of Murray river.
