In past times whenever Italian wine was mentioned, Orvieto was one of the few names to be more frequently remembered.

Grechetto: The white Grechetto is the primary ingredient in Orvieto DOC in Umbria. It is also used in the production of Torgiano DOC. Grechetto has a distinctive nutty character which allows it to make an excellent Vin Santo.

Abboccato (It.) Medium sweet. Particularly used for Orvieto, which can be dry (secco) or abboccato. See also 'amabile', 'dolce'.
Abocado (Sp.) Medium sweet. See also 'dulce', 'seco'.

Perhaps the most successful Trebbiano-based blend are the Orvieto whites of Umbria, which use a local clone called Procanico.
Trebbiano is also used to produce balsamic vinegar.

Mostly used for blending with other wines to create white wines known as (eg.) "Orvieto" and "Torgiano".

VERDELLO: White wine variety grown in central Italy. Known to be an ingredient in the best Orvieto Classico wine blends of Umbria. Has synonym name of Breval. May be a clone of the Spanish Verdelho variety, imported around the 15th century.
