Another of my personal terms for a wine that breaks the bounds of everyday status in a noisy way: Big, mouth-filling, intense, powerful, memorable. Always meant positively.

But because so many people like it, it is routinely one of the most outrageously priced wines on the list.

Even more outrageous, the 1979 and 1980 vintages were selling for $50 in the marketplace that was accustomed to $15-$20 for a Napa Valley Cabernet.

Sometimes brilliant winemaking variety, often contributing an elusive, smoky character to its wines, that can be dry or outrageously sweet. Lime infused aromas, intense stonefruit flavours and a certain razzle-dazzle.

Complex and balanced; implies more participating elements than "delicate," but balance is critical. A wine that's "outrageous" or "in-your-face" may be complex, but it isn't likely to be subtle.

as merely being "Dallas with grapes', Falcon Crest soon found its own niche amongst the prime-time dramas of the 1980s, occupying the middle ground between the two extremes of the genre - being more glamorous than Dallas yet not quite as outrageous ...
