Flavor - apple, pear, citrus, strawberry, cream and vanilla (typically on the finish), yeast and nutty flavors are all common denominators in Sparkling wines and Champagnes.

More toasty character comes out in the palate, which also displays mild pear and zesty lime / citrus flavors and a distinct mineral component that almost seems salty.

When well made, Chardonnay offers bold, ripe, rich and intense fruit flavors of apple, fig, melon, pear, peach, pineapple, lemon and grapefruit, along with spice, honey, butter, butterscotch and hazelnut flavors.

Signature aromas include fig, lemon, pear, lime, nectarine, saffron, bell pepper, asparagus and grass. Oak aging and malolactic fermentation add notes of lanolin, vanilla, buttered toast, cream, smoke and oak.

Favorita wines are noted for their intense pear notes and an ability to age longer than Arneis. The grapes tend to ripen late and maintain a fair amount of acidity.

Flavors range from apple, pear, green tea, limes and freshly mowed grass. You can often detect a little smokiness. California Sauvignon Blancs sometimes have a melon flavor. This is a crisp light wine with a strong acid finish.

These grapes are generally turned into semi-sweet wines with a floral and/or spicy perfume and hints of honeyed-peach, pear, and tropical fruit in the flavors.

It more fun than stocks and shares. And if it all goes pear-shaped, at least you can drown your sorrows with a decent bottle.
