The vine is highly resistance to peronospera but has some susceptibility to oidium. It grows best in well exposed, sunny sites on hillsides. Similar to Nebbiolo, Freisa produces wines with considerable tannins and acidity.
An early spring brought flowering and fruit set forward but a wet and warm June was accompanied by widespread attacks of peronospera.
