Pinenc is a synonym of the Fer or Fer Servadou. Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault first created at Stellenbosch University in the 1920s.
PINENC: Minor grape grown in the Pyrenees region of France and one of the grapes used to create a red wine blend known as "Madiran". The grape is also known as Fer, (or Fer Servadou) and also, in other regions of France, is named Brocol or Braucol.
FER: Also known as Fer Servadou, Brocol, Braucol, Mansois and Pinenc. The name apparently refers to the iron-hard woodiness of the vine.
