Pinot Blanco

Wine Pinot blancPinot Chardonnay

A widely grown white-wine producing variety, known as Steen in South Africa, Pineau de la Loire in the Loire region of France and under the alias name White Pinot (Pinot Blanco) elsewhere in the world.

It is planted as Pinot Blanco in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Argentina, where there are over 10,000 acres of chenin blanc. Nearly a third of vines in South Africa are chenin blanc, where it is also called Steen.

AKA
Pineau de la Loire and Blanc d'Anjou, Steen in South Africa, White Pinot (Pinot Blanco) in Italy ...

This is specially true in Italy, where producers of Pinot Blanco are pleasantly surprised to find they have the better selling Chardonnay planted instead, and have rushed to change the name of their wines.

California, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil (Pinot Blanco), New Zealand and Australia also make this wine. Chenin Blanc does well in warm climates because of its early bud break and late ripening.
