PORTUGIESER
A red-wine grape grown in Austria. Used to make a dark red, medium-bodied wine of average quality. Also known as Blau Portugieser.

 


Blauer Portugieser

Also known as, Portugeiser, Oporto, Portugaljka, Portugizac Crni.

BLAU PORTUGIESER:

BOBAL:
Red wine grape extensively grown in Spain. Produces deeply colored wine suitable for blending.

PORTUGIESER: Also known as the Blau Portugieser in Austria where it is grown and used to make a somewhat bland, dark red, medium-bodied wine.

There are also substantial plantings of Portugieser, a heavy-cropping black variety. There is a great variety in the soils too, which in their diversity have much more in common with those of Alsace than any other German wine region.

Origin: (/St. Laurent x Blauer Portugieser/ x Alibernet).It was cultivated by Professor V. Kraus in Lednice (Moravia) in 1965. In the Czech Republic, it is seldom grown (only 0,2 % of the entire vineyard areas).

A typical white berried grape of this region is Rieslaner which is used for the production of interesting wines having good aromas and usually resemble Riesling. In Franconia are also produced red wines with Spätburgunder and Portugieser grapes.
