Syrah / Shiraz (prunes, spices and berries) Shiraz is the name of an old city in Iran (Persia). That's probably where the grape variety originated. It is known in France and California as Syrah, and in Australia as Shiraz.

Dolcetto wines are known for black cherry and licorice flavors with some prunes and a characteristically bitter finish reminiscent of almonds. While the name implies sweetness, the wines are normally dry.
