Sangria is a wonderful summer cocktail made with wine, sugar and fruit. It's a great, refreshing treat for a hot summer day and makes a regular old summer barbecue into something really special.

Sangria
A tart punch made from red wine to which orange, lemon, apricot juice and sugar have been added.

Sangria (sahn-gree'-ah)
An iced red wine and fruit mixture from Spain. The concept of adding fruit and or sweetening agents to wine is of ancient origin.

Sangria: Great in the summer, it is a cheaper wine flavored with fruit (peaches, oranges, apples).
Sasa: Sweet wine high in sugar.

Sangria. Sangria is made from red wine, fruit juices, soda water and fruit. Sometimes brandy is added. Sangria Blanco is made from white wine. Both are served cold with ice.

Another warm-weather quaff is Sangria, made by macerating cut-up fruit (oranges and lemons are traditional) in red or white wine.

And if you add water, sugar and citrus fruit to red or white wine, you'll come up with Spain's famous blend, Sangria. A very popular drink in winter is mulled wine, which is made by adding sugar, water, cinnamon and cloves to red or white wine.

Pinot Noir, simple Rhones, Cabernet Franc and Loire Valley Reds for chilling. The best way to chill a wine is to put it in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes. Please don't put ice cubes in the glass, unless of course your drinking a Sangria.

Wines are fortified (sherry, port), flavored with herbs (Dubonnet, vermouth, May Wine) or fruit (sangria) or spices (wassail, mulled wine), or even "adulterated" with pitch (retsina).
