Savagnin or Savagnin Blanc is a white wine grape variety mostly grown in Jura in France. It is the basis of the famous vin jaune of Jura, which can only be made from this grape. It is very late ripening, and may be picked as late as December.
Still grown in France, where it is better known as Savagnin Blanc, and in California but almost everywhere else has been largely replaced by its much more intense and aromatic offspring Gewürztraminer clonal variety.
Generally accepted to be identical to the Savagnin Blanc variety. (No other details other than the reference occurs in the research paper by Regner, F., et al., "Wein-Wissenschaft", 53(3) 114-18 1998).
