Savatiano is a white grape type that is widely planted in Greece. Capable of producing clean dry whites its character is normally hidden in the Resin scented Retsina of which it is the principal ingredient.
SAVATIANO: White-wine grape widely grown in central Greece. Usually found as part of a blend with Rhoditis and Assyrtiko grape-wines to create one of the resin flavored wines called "Retsina" so associated with Greece.
Among local white berried grapes there are Assyrtiko, Moscophilero, Muscat Blanc, Robola, Roditis and Savatiano, the grape mainly used for the production of the renowned Retsina.
Retsina. A dry white wine made in Greece, mostly from the Savatiano grape, to which pine resin has been added.
