SCHWARZRIESLING: Alias name for the Pinot Meunier grape of France where grown in Australia. Also known as Millers Burgundy. (See above).

 


Ferdinand Regner has proposed that Pinot noir is a cross between Pinot meunier (Schwarzriesling) and Traminer, but this work has not been replicated.

Origin: This variety originates from Burgundy where it was probably created during the Roman Period by spontaneous crossbreeding of Pinot Meunier (Schwarzriesling) and Traminer.

Pinot Meunier, also known as Schwarzriesling or Müllerrebe, is a variety of red wine grape most frequently used in the production of Champagne.

Also has synonym names of Schwarzriesling and Black Riesling. Is a Pinot Noir clone widely grown for use in Champagne-style sparkling wine blends; probably imported from Germany where it is known as the Müllerebe grape.

the appearance of its leaf undersides, which look as though they've been dusted with flour (meunier is French for "miller"). It is also simply called Meunier in France. In Germany, it is known as Müllerrebe (miller grape) and also Schwarzriesling.
