SERINE: Accession variety, occasionally grown under the name Petite Sirah in California, reported as derived from a Petite Sirah x 3309 Couderc cross (the latter is a V.Rupestris x V.Riparia complex cross variety commonly used as a rootstock).

 


Syrah (or Serine) is supposed to have been brought in the south of France from the region of Syracuse by the Roman.
The vine-variety is the principal grape in the north of the Rhõne Valley. Syrah appreciates poor soil and hot climate.

Also known as, Schiras, Sirac, Syra, Syrac, Sirah, Petite Syrah, Hignin Noir, Candive, Entournerein, Antourenein, Serene, Serenne, Serine, Marsanne Noir, Shiraz, Balsamina.
