Shortening
Cooking fat made by hydrogenation of vegetable oil, or by combination of meat fat and vegetable oil.

Jerez

Term used primarily in California to describe the most basic sort of generic table wine, an American counterpart to vin ordinaire in Europe.

HOLLOW: Describes a wine that has a first taste and a short finish, and lacks depth in the middle. No body!
HOT: High alcohol wines that tend to burn on the finish are called hot. Can be acceptable in fortified wines.

Transfer Method:Technique for making sparkling wine in which, after the second fermentation in the bottle and a short period of sur lie aging (but before riddling), the wine is transferred-with sediment-to a pressurized tank.

In short, this type of tasting tells you more about the producers than about the vintage since you are comparing different wineries rather than different years.

Gruner, as it's called for short, shows distinct white pepper, tobacco, lentil and citrus flavors and aromas, along with high acidity, making it an excellent partner for food.
