Spicy
Spicy/hot foods cancel some of a wine's fruitiness too. Serve them with lightly sweet, very fruity, low tannin, and/or crisp wines. Stay away from higher alcohol, tannic red, and/or oaky wines.

Spicy

Spicy - While spicy generally describes something which is hot, like hot peppers or salsa, in food, spicy, in wine tasting terms, describes a wine with aromas or flavors of spices such as cinnamon, clove, pepper, or nutmeg.

Spicy is another wine tasters term, referring to a wine that tastes like it has spices added to it. The German wine, Gewurztraminer, is a good example of a spicy wine.
Spumante
Spumante is Italian for sparkling wine.

Spicy
The characteristic spice-like smell and taste encountered in many wines, sometimes due to a certain grape variety, such as Gewurztraminer. Some wines have flavors reminiscent of allspice, cinnamon, cloves, pepper or other spices.

Spice / Spicy
A wine tasting term. Use carefully. Gewurztraminer (which means "spicy traminer") is the only grape that you should use the unqualified term "spice" for (in reference to its aroma).

Spicy foods need something to contrast them and stand up to the spice.
For example, Thai dishes work well with off-dry or medium-sweet wines. The sweetness can temper the heat of the spice.

Fiano is a spicy, smoky and crisp white grape grown in the Campania region of southern Italy for centuries. It produces straw-colored wines that smell and taste of honey, ripe pears, and toasted hazelnuts. It's best wine is the DOCG Fiano di Avellino.

Tannic, Tannin
A substance in grape skins, seeds, and stems necessary for the development of fine red wines.

Pinotage. Spicy, unusual red wine of South Africa.
Pinot Grigio. Italian wine - same grape as Pinot Gris - that recently became the most popular imported wine in the U.S.

Especiado (spicy) The aroma of a wine generally aged for a long period in wood and bottle in which hints of spices (cloves, pepper, nutmeg etc), can be identified.
Espeso (thick) Robust wine, with a lot of body and density.

"Gewürz" means "spicy" in German. Traminer is the original name of the grape that produces this flamboyantly aromatic, full-bodied, spicy white wine, ...

dioxide trapped in the bottle.

These grapes are generally turned into semi-sweet wines with a floral and/or spicy perfume and hints of honeyed-peach, pear, and tropical fruit in the flavors.

It has a spicy richness that some may confuse with Gewurztraminer, but it has a higher acidity which prevents the development of the fat, lazy texture which may sometimes be found with the latter.

Riesling wines are delicate but complex, and characterized by a spicy, fruity flavor, flower-scented Bouquet and long finish. Riesling is vinified in a variety of styles ranging from Dry to very sweet.

Spicy dishes, such as spicy oriental stir-frys and even curry, especially Thai-style which is made with coconut milk, may be accompanied and complemented by Viognier.

Gewurztraminer has a spicy aroma and fruity flavors of peach, apricot, tropical fruits, and lychee. It can be dry or sweet.
Food and Wine Pairing: Gewurztraminers go especially well with spicy Asian dishes and pork sausages.

If you add a hot spice to the grilled beef tenderloin, serve it with a similarly spicy varietal. Argentine malbec and Australian shiraz have strong tannin structures and a spicy flavor.

Zinfandel - Primarily thought of as a Californian varietal (though recently proven to have originated from vineyards in Croatia), Zinfandel is a red wine with light to full body and berry-like or spicy flavors.

bitter and spicy, and their sweet vermouths have strong caramel overtones. French vermouths are subtler, and rely as much on aroma as taste for their flavor impact.

Suited to temperate zones, the vine is high-yielding and the grape produces an "easy" white wine with lightly spicy, floral flavors and mild intensity.

Peppery: A not entirely unpleasant spicy characteristic sometimes-found in young red wines and ports. Rather raw, biting and reminiscent of black pepper.
