Sultana Another name used for Thompson Seedless grapes. Since making wine from this common grocery store variety of grapes has a deserved attached stigma, the name Sultana is much more common for wine.
SULTANA: Known as Thompson Seedless in California. (See below). SYLVANER: (aka Silvaner). Widely grown in the Alsace region of France, Germany and Central Europe.
Much low quality wine has historically been produced (often from table grapes such as sultanas, but in the late 20th Century, the export business grew very quickly, and large amounts of quality wines were produced.
Tarrango Australian hybrid red grape (a cross of Touriga Nacional and the white Sultana), which was designed to offer a fruit style that gave lightness and freshness even in the sometimes searing heat of Australia.
Serve. Using the spoon carefully, place all the fruit, the sultanas, ginger and cinnamon into the punch bowl. Pour the wine into the bowl, onto the fruit. Allow the wine to cool a little before serving.
Tarrango Not a dance, but an obscure cross between a Portuguese grape variety with the Sultana grape, that is sometimes used in Australia to make simple, fruity red wines with piercing acidity.
Sultana: A small, pale golden-green grape originating in Smyrna, Turkey. It is the most widely planted variety in California, where it goes by the name of Thompson Seedless. It is the common "white" or "golden" raisin sold in America.
