Terret noir Synonyms None in Australia, but also known as Tarret or Terrain in South-Eastern France.
TERRET NOIR: Minor grape grown in the southern Rhone region of France. Still allowed in local red wine blends in order to enhance acidity as far as is known but finding less favor as the decades advance.
The main production is about red and rose wines - about 90% - generally produced with Grenache Noir, however even the grapes Carignan, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Terret Noir and Syrah are used in their production as well.
The red wines, which dominate, are a blend of Syrah, Mourvčdre, Grenache and Lledoner Pelut (together accounting for at least 50%) with Carignan, Picpoul Noir, Terret Noir and Cinsaut. The latter is limited to a maximum 20%.
Other red grapes include Cinsaut, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Muscardine, Syrah, Terret Noir, and Vaccarèse. White grapes include Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Clairette Blanc, Picardin, Roussanne, and Piquepoul.
