Tinto de Verano or Tinto Verano is a refreshing wine-based drink similar to sangría which is very popular in Andalucia.

 


Tinto Basic type of wine derived from red or black grapes, (sometimes mixed with white grapes), and fermented in the presence of the grape skins. The colour can range from cherry-red to bluish-black.

This wine term describes a grape harvest of a specific year. A vintage wine is one that's made using 95 percent of those grapes. Wines made from grapes harvested from several years are called nonvintage.

AZAL TINTO: Also known as Caiño Longo. Native variety grown in Portugal/Spain. Has several synonym names; Caiño Bravo and Caiño Tinto in Spain, Amaral or Cainho Bravo in Portugal.

GEWURZTRAMINER
A clone of the Traminer varietal widely grown in the Alsace region of France, as well as cool coastal regions of the western United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

GEISENHEIM GM318-57: White wine producing hybrid cultivar technically known as GM318-57 created in 1957. Reported as derived from Riesling cl.239 F2 and Chancellor parents. Moderately winter hardy.

GOLDRIESLING:
Ancient grape producing mainly mediocre white wines. Mainly grown in small acreages to be found in former East Germany or northern Austria.

Azal Branco, one of the white Portuguese grapes that gives freshness to and is a constituent of most Vinho Verde. There is also a red version Azal Tinto, which does the same for the red version of Vinho Verde.

Among the best are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão. There are nine types of Port that vary in quality, complexity and oak aging.

The lowest category is represented by tintos joven (young reds), simple wines and with fruity aromas, which are common in the local market and are not exported.

Port, a blended wine, is made with up to five red grape varieties: Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Touriga Francesa, and the most highly regarded: Touriga Nacional.

Tinto Fino in New York, for instance, sells only wines from Spain. This means consumers can go deeper into certain regions than ever before because these stores tend to find unusual stuff from small producers.

In Spanish it is known as Cariñena with Mazuelo, Tinto Mazuelo, Crujillon and Samsó also being used in Spain. In California it is spelled with an extra vowel on the end as Carignane. In Catalan the grape is known as Carinyena.

Tempranillo is known variously throughout Spain as Cencibel, Tinto del Pais, Tinto Fino, Ull de Llebre and Ojo. It's also grown along the Douro River in Portugal under the monikers Tinta Roriz (used in the making of Port) and Tinta Aragonez.

Some other reported versions that exist are the Tinto Fino of the Zamora region, Tinta del Pais of the Ribero del Duero and Tinta de Toro in the Toro region. In Portugal the grape is known as the (Tinta) Roriz and Aragonez.

There is also a purple variety, Verdelho Tinto, planted on that island. There is some speculation that the same variety is planted in the Douro Valley, where it is called Gouvieo.

In France this variety is also known as Carignane noire, Crignare or Plant d'Espagne. In Spain it is also known as Tinto or Cariñena, and in Italy as Carignano.

Tempranillo is a grape of mystery, traveling the world under different names like a spy with many passports. Even in Spain, its homeland, tempranillo is known as tinta de Toro, tinta del pais, tinto fino, cencibel and ull de llebre ("hare's eye").

Teinturier: generic name for any grape whose natural juice is red-colored or pink-colored, (as opposed to most varieties whose juice is colorless). In Spanish, tintorera.
Thin: lacking in body or alcohol; a watery wine.

tintoSpanish and Portuguese for red, but reserved almost solely for use with wine. tirageThe process of bottling a cuvée with the addition of active yeast and sugar in order to induce a second fermentation.
