Trollinger
Widely planted in Württemburg in Germany, where it usually produces light, often sweet reds. Can be strawberryish and delightfully charming.
Also known as, Schiava, Vernatsch, Schiava Grossa, Grossvernatsch.

KERNER: Moderately hardy grape developed from a cross between the Riesling and Trollinger varieties by the Weinsberg/Württemburg State Wine Institute, Baden (De).

Kerner: A German cross of the Riesling grape and Black Hamburg (Trollinger), Kerner is resistant to frost and does well in cooler climates. It has a sweet taste, much like a Riesling wine. The grape does well in cooler areas like Michigan, US.

This is the third most planted grape in Germany even though first bred only in 1969 from the Trollinger and Riesling. It manages to retain a lot of the Riesling character being both fruity and steely. Now also quite widely planted in England.

Red wine grapes grown, though not nearly to the extent of whites include Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Trollinger and Lemberger. If a bottle says "Riesling" on the label, you can bet that it maintains at least 85% Riesling within.
