The high-in-acid BARBERA grape of north-western Italy is a chameleon-like grape which changes considerably according to yield.

 


Farmyard A generally more positive term than "Barnyard" used to describe the earthy and vegetal undertones that some Chardonnay and Pinot noir develop after maturing in the bottle.

Riesling wines can be highly aromatic with apple, peach and pear at the forefront mixed with delicate floral undertones and often honey and spice on the nose.

Grassy
Wines that have slight vegetal-tasting undertones as part of the overall character like Sauvignon Blanc and certain other grape varietals.

Flavour & Character
Sharp, tangy, gooseberry is the predominant flavour. Also has undertones of grass, nettles, elderflower and asparagus.

MARZEMINO: Grape variety used to make a red varietal reminiscent of Gamay type wine but with almond-taste undertones. Mainly restricted to the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy. Synonym names include Bassanino and Uva Tedesca.

California Sauvignon Blancs tend to fall into two styles. The New Zealand-influenced Sauvignon Blanc has more tropical fruit undertones with citrus and passion fruit notes. The Mondavi-influenced Fumé Blanc is rounder with melon notes.
