Verdicchio [vehr-DEEK-kyoh] is a variety of white grape grown in the Marche region of Italy and gives its name to the varietal white wine made from it. The name is a derivative of the word "verde" which means green due to its slight green/yellow hue.

One of the most famous grapes of Marches, the one which has contributed more than other to the affirmation of the enology of this region, certainly is Verdicchio.

While Chianti Classico is a demarcated DOCG district, the Classico for Verdicchio, for example, refers to the central part of the appellation. cleanA wine without winemaking flaws or bacterial spoilage.

The best included a 2005 Verdicchio di Castello dei Jesi Classico named "Castelverde." This non-oak aged Verdicchio has great depth of lemon and apple fruit with light spice in the lengthy finish.

Verdicchio is the grape largely responsible for the regions best known white wine, Verdicchio and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. Both can be good drinking.

Classico. Italian term indicating that wine comes from the heart of a specific region. While Chianti Classico is a demarcated DOCG district, the Classico for Verdicchio, for example, refers to the central part of the appellation.

Other important whites include Carricante, Catarratto, Coda de Volpe, Cortese, Falaghina, Grillo, Inzolia, Picolit, Traminer, Verdicchio, Verduzzo, Vermentino, and Vernaccia.

CODA DI VOLPE: Variety grown in Campania, Italy, especially near Naples, and used for white blending wine in the "Lachryma Christi del Vesuvio" white version along with Verdicchio, Greco di Bianca and Falanghina.
