Vertical Tasting A tasting of one wine from different vintages, usually presented in chronological order.

A vertical tasting is conducted by tasting one wine varietal from the same producer from several vintages.

A vertical tasting compares the wines of one estate or producer. This will show the evolution of the wine and the effect different growing conditions have on the production of a wine.

In a vertical tasting, different vintages of the same wine type from the same winery are tasted. This emphasizes differences between various vintages from the same winery.

Speaking in February 2008 at a vertical tasting of his wine, Mouton-Rothschild director Hervé Berland informed his audience that temperatures in Bordeaux are today, on average, 1ºC higher than during the last 40 years.

Vertical Tasting - This type of tasting highlights wines from different vintages, but ones that are all produced by the same winery.

I've actually used these in vertical tastings of wine and labeled each glass with the vintage so I could keep track, which is pretty helpful instead of trying to keep them all in horizontal order on the table.

Two 18th century, forty 19th century, and all released 20th century vintages of Château d'Yquem up to 1991 featured in this vertical tasting which was conducted over the course of a week.

At one store in Clearwater, we picked up three different vintages of reliable Cambria Pinot Noir, for $22.99 each. That isn't inexpensive, but imagine what a fun dinner party you could give with a vertical tasting of those three vintages.
