WET DOG
The aroma of adhesive strip or wet horse.
WINE
Alcohol containing beverage produced by the yeast fermentation of grape juice or must. Wine has a specific legal definition in all countries of the world.

 


A musty "wet dog" or "wet cardboard" smell (usually slight) that wine can take on as a result of bacteria in the cork interacting with minute amounts of chemical residues that may remain on corks or in bottles after they are washed.

Corked wine containing TCA has a characteristic odor, variously described as resembling a moldy newspaper, wet dog, or damp basement.

Corked. Wine that's tainted by a bad cork. Tends to smell like wet cardboard or a wet dog.
Cult Wines. Symbol of '90s bubble. Hard-to-find, excellent, very expensive and generally red California wines more often bought and sold than drunk.

Description. A mousy, horsey, sweaty, wet dog, leathery, stale hamburger, barnyard character. Similar character to Belgian Lambic beer. Adds complexity at low levels.

This compound has a distinctive musty aroma that some people describe as moldy, wet newspaper or cardboard, wet dog or a damp basement. Even a small amount of this can obscure the normal aromas and flavors of a wine and thus this is a faulty wine.
