Hemachandra Acharya S┼"r─" (Sanskrit: рд╣реЗрдордЪрдиреНрджреНрд░ рд╕реВрд░реА) (1089-1172) was an Indian Jain scholar, poet, and polymath who wrote on grammar, philosophy, prosody, and contemporary history.

Brahmacharya
Brahmacharya has two main meanings. In the broad sense it means control of the senses or indriyas. More specifically it refers to celibacy or chastity.

Brahmacharya (continence) states that when we have control over our physical impulses of excess, we attain knowledge, vigor, and increased energy. To break the bonds that attach us to our excesses and addictions, we need both courage and will.

Brahmacharya. Purity, chastity, nonlust (one of the yamas).
Brahman. The absolute. Divinity itself, God as creator. When Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem "Brahma" appeared in the Atlantic Monthly in 1857, most of the readers were bewildered.

Brahmacharya (Sexual Continence):
Yoga sadhaka should follow continence, but this does not mean that he should renounce family life and become a monk; such an action is not expected in Yoga science.

Brahmacharya (Sense-control)
Brahmacharya is a movement toward the essential truth. It is used mostly in the sense of abstinence, particularly in relationship to sexual activity.

The word 'Yoga' reminds us of 'Yogasana' here is a very close relationship between Yoga and Yogasana. Really speaking, 'Yogasana' is a part of 'Yoga'. We think, that Yoga itself means 'Yogasana'.

Brahmacharya: Literally means practicing conduct that leads one to God. Mostly it is used to describe self-restraint, especially over sexual desire, the first stage in the fourfold Hindu life cycle.

Brahmacharya is from birth to about 21. It is a period of study, learning, and maturing. Commonly, there would be a great deal of spiritual study, as well as academic study during this time period.

"Brahmacharya" means religious study, self-restraint and celibacy.
Effects:
This asana tones the abdominal organs and keeps them free from sluggishness. It also tones the kindeys, rejuvenates the whole spine and improves digestion.

Also known as the pascimottana-asana or the brahmacharya-asana. The word pascima can mean behind, later, last or final but it literally means "western" as in the direction. Pascimottana thus means back-stretching posture.

The yamas or restraints are five, constituting a firm ethical foundation for spiritual growth, starting with ahimsa (nonviolence) and including satya (truth), asteya (nonstealing), brahmacharya (continence) and aparigraha (nonpossession).

The source is the Yoga Karunta (Korunta means groups), an ancient manuscript found in the archives of the Calcutta Library by Pattabhi’s guru, Krishnamacharya.

The great commentator Lord Adi Shankaracharya has declared: "I am neither mind, intellect, sub-conscious mind or the ego." If this is so how on earth does it strike that "I am not so and so?" Where do the decisions and counter decisions arise?

Iyengar yoga is a form of yoga developed by BKS Iyengar, a former student of Krishnamacharya. Based in Puna, India, BKS Iyengar has been teaching yoga since 1936.

Many of the schools of Hatha Yoga popular today in the West can trace their roots to the Indian Sanskrit scholar and teacher Krishnamacharya (1889-1989), several of whose pupils have themselves become prominent teachers.

Nimbarkacharya in his commentary on the Brahmasutra entitled ' Vedanta-parijata-saurabha' and also in 'Dashashloki' dealt with three realities: (1) Brahma (the supreme Reality), (2) soul ( cit), and (3) matter ( acit).

This is very useful in keeping up Brahmacharya. It makes you Oordhvaretas. The seminal energy is transmuted into spiritual energy, Ojas-Shakti. This is also called sex-sublimation. You will not have wet-dreams, Spermatorrhea.

The great sage Sri Shankaracharya, once sang a song about a young man who lived a life of enjoyment, and who inevitably grew old. The song mentions that although body had grown old, the desire within him hadn't; it was still as vital as ever.

TKV Desikachar discusses the theory and practice as laid down by his father Krishnamacharya. Based on his own personal yoga practice, this book will appeal to students and teachers from all branches of yoga.

In 1995, along with Karamvir Maharaj and Acharya Balkrishna, Swami Ramdev set up the Divya Yoga Mandir Trust in Haridwar, Uttaranchal, which sees a regular stream of devotees and is a multi-million rupee venture now.

Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar with his intellectual and spiritual practices has masterminded many techniques which can be used by all practitioners of yoga. He made Asana and Pranayama teachniques transparent in the west.

One who is called Mahamandaleshwar, has been elevated by his peers, to the highest level of traditional, Hindu spiritual guardianship. Today, India has 80 Mahamandaleshwars who carry on the work begun by Adi Shankaracharya, 1200 years ago.

I observed that when this man was asked one challenging question, his anger roared up. What is the use of silence and brahmacharya if someone can still push your buttons and set you off? You have achieved nothing.

Also, because each asana contains the vibratory essence for whom/what it was named, we can evoke the wisdom of the great acharya Matsyendra by practicing this asana.
