Anjali mudra is normally accompanied by a slight bowing of the head.
Symbolic meaning
Anjali mudra has the same meaning as the Sanskrit greeting Namaste and can be performed while saying Namaste or Pranam, or in place of vocalizing the word.

When you take your hands into the "reverse Namaste" position (which is Anjali mudra done behind your back, known as Pascimanamaskarasana), your entire palms should be pressing together firmly, ...

Bring the hands together in Anjali Mudra with the thumbs resting against the sternum, top elbow pointing up. This isn't just a pretty picture pose. Press the elbow against the knee to further rotate the torso; bring the thumbs to the heart center.
