Ashtanga Yoga was not developed by Pattabhi Jois, but transcribed and taught by him. The source is the Yoga Karunta (Korunta means groups), an ancient manuscript found in the archives of the Calcutta Library by Pattabhi’s guru, Krishnamacharya.

Pranayama is the fourth limb of Ashtanga Yoga. Pranayama is the measuring, control, and directing of the breath. Pranayama controls the energy within the organism, in order to restore and maintain health and to promote evolution.

Raja Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga is the path of physical and mental control. Hatha yoga and kundalini yoga are different forms of raja yoga.
