Ashwa means horse, in this asana a similar movement of expansion and contraction of anus of horse is expected. To achieve maximum movements a specific position is taken which is called 'Ashwini Mudra".

Aswini Mudra (gesture of the horse) - The word Ashwini means 'Horse'. The practice is so-called because the anal contraction resembles the movement a horse makes with its sphincter immediately after evacuation of the bowels.
(Mula bandha needs correct posture, otherwise it becomes ashwini mudra! If you slump and roll back on the sitting bones and tail bone you will not be able to get the lift in the pelvic floor region, instead you get a squeeze of the anal sphincters.) ...
