Bahya Kumbhaka (Pause After Exhaling) Empty Pause The Fourth Stage of Breathing, the pause after exhaling, is also called kumbhaka, especially when the stoppage is deliberate or prolonged.
Performbahya kumbhaka holding at the bottom of the breath for at least 3 seconds. Practice lightly at first then gradually increase the time and force of the retention.
9) Retain the bahya kumbhaka. Here the bahya kumbhaka and the uddiyana bandha, mulabandha, and jalandhara bandha act as one.
The duration of the bahya kumbhaka ( the state after complete exhalation before inhalation ) will determine the duration of the process. The duration will change as per the study of each sadhaka.
Initially kumbhaka (holding of the breath) is performed with effort, after inhalation (antah kumbhaka) or exhalation (bahya kumbhaka). When holding of the breath becomes natural (sahaj), we call it kevala kumbhaka.
