Bandhas and Blood Pressure
Bandhas are a group of physical locks which allow the practitioner to control different organs of the body and their nerves. The word bandha means to hold or tighten'.

 


Bandha (बन्ध) is a Sanskrit term for "binding, bond, arrest, capturing, putting together" etc. It may refer to:

What is a Bandha?
In Sanskrit: Bandha means to bind, capture or hold. It is a way Yoga practitioners prevent energy escaping when performing pranayama the ancient art of yoga breathing exercise.

BANDHA
Bandh is a special characteristic of Hatha Yoga. The various types of bandhas have been described in Yoga texts. However none of them defines the term "Bandh" as such.

Jalandhara Bandha is one of three important "bonds" for pranayama breath retention, the other two being Mula and Uddiyana.

Sethu Bandhasana
Sethu Bandhasana or the bridge pose increases flexibility and elasticity of your body. Sethu Bandhasana also strengthens the lower back and abdominal muscles and opens the chest.

Mula Bandha
Press the Yoni with the left heel. Keep the right heel pressed at the space just above the organ of generation. Contract the anus and draw the Apana Vayu upwards. This is called Mula Bandha.

The Mula Bandha consists of the contraction of the perineum (zone between the genitals and the anus) accompanied by a breath control technique.

Bandhas are energetic locks that contain the prana in the torso and concentrate it in the three main energy channels (nadis) of the body.

Three Bandhas
There are four Bhedas (piercing of divisions) viz., Surya, Ujjayi, Sitali and Basti. Through these four ways, when Kumbhaka is near or about to be performed, the sinless Yogi should practise the three Bandhas.

Bandhas give tone to the inner body -the digestive organs and all the internal organs that maintain our health and life.

Bandhas are a series of powerful locks designed to unlock blockages of energy in the body. Moolbandha contracts an area around mooladhara chakra in the perineal area. Uddiyana bandha involves a contraction of the abdominal area.

36. Mula Bandha: Apana (breath) which has a downward tendency is forced up by the sphincter muscles of the anus. Mula Bandha is the name of this process.

(b) Breath control or pranayama with muscular looks or bandhas: Pranayama is a technique of controlling breathing.

Mula bandha and uddiyana bandha are applied. The lower ribs move into the body, lengthening the front of the body. The asana or seat in this pose is the hands, wrists, and forearms which are pressing evenly into the floor lifting the energy upwards.

Sampat: Perfection.
Samsaya: Doubt.
Samskaras: Mental impressions.
Samvit: Knowledge.
Sanga: Attachment; association.
Sankalpa: Thought.
Santa: Peaceful; calm.
Santosha: Contentment.
Sarupyam: Luminous; identification.
