Brihaspati: 'lord of prayer or devotion' the spiritual teacher of king I n d r a and the chief priest of the heavenly planets (see also B.G. 10: 24).

 


Brihaspati: The Hindu Deity of Wisdom; the chief of all the priests. Buddha: The Awakened One - The honorary title of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism who lived in the sixth century B.C.

Brihaspati is sometimes referenced as the founder of Carvaka/Lokayata philosophy. The earliest direct quote from Brihaspati's lost writings is found in the Sarvasiddhantasamgraha (sometimes attributed to Samkara, although some scholars question that).

Brhaspati (Brihaspati) [Ved.]: the Master of the creative Word (the stress in the name falling upon the potency of the Word rather than upon the thought of the general soul-power which is behind it).

You might have been angels, you might have been a Gabriel or a Michael, you might have been an Indra or a Brihaspati, you might have been a Gana of Rudra or in Vaikuntha, a Parshada of Lord Visnu; ...

The guru is symbolised by the planet Brihaspati (Jupiter). During the day of Mouni Amavasya in the specific period of the Kumbha Mela, whilst the sun and the moon line up in the zodiac sign of Capricorn. Jupiter lies in kumbha rashi (Aries).

Among the priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati. Among the army generals, I am Skanda; I am the ocean among the bodies of water. (10.24) ...
