The kundalini energy is the primordial energy in man, the dormant potential, the unharnessed energy, it is usually pictured as a small snake asleep in mooladhara chakra.

The Six Chakras
9. There are six chakras. Muladhara is in the anus. Svadhishthana is near the genital organ. Manipuraka is in the navel. Anahata is in the heart.

Chakras are energy centres that govern our mental, physical and emotional responses to life. When the chakras are balanced we experience a natural flow and flexibility that ripples out into the world around us.

The chakras are the seven main energy centers in the body. They are located along the spine, starting at the base and running upwards to the crown of the head.

Yoga for Better Health: The Seven Major Energy Centers (Chakras)
Yoga is one of the most famous and globally widespread of India's traditions. It has existed as a system of exercise, breathing, and meditation for over 5,000 years.

chakras (CHA-kruhz) The Sanskrit term chakra literally translates as "wheel" or "disc," referring to the shape of these whirling energy centers that control the body's vital organs. They correspond to nerve plexes, ganglia, and glands.

Chakras
Chakras are intersections of two or more nadis. Because there are so many nadis, there are literally uncounted numbers of chakras in the astral body.

The chakras are regarded as the centers of psychic energy. As we have seen (in our discussion of the "Kundalini Spiral"), the literature gives very detailed descriptions regarding the shapes and colors, etc.

Shat-Chakras
Chakras are centers of spiritual energy. They are located in the astral body, but they have corresponding centers in the physical body also. They can hardly be seen by the naked eyes. Only a clairvoyant can see with his astral eyes.

The stages of the Kundalini journey have been visualised as seven chakras - energy wheels, or gates through which the conscious must pass; individual consciousness rising up while universal consciousness descends.

As Kundalini travels upward through the central channel, She pierces the various chakras, finally reaching the sahasrara at the crown of the head. There the individual soul merges into the supreme Self and attains the state of Self-realization.

This latent energy has to be aroused and made to ascend the main spinal channel, the Susumna piercing the chakras right up to the Sahasrara, the thousand-petalled lotus in the head. Then the Yogi is in union with the Supreme Universal Soul.

In the process they draw the forces of Kundalini energy upward. It helps in releasing the power of various chakras.
