Durga: difficult to attain, hard to approach, danger, distress.
Durga: One of the wives of Shiva. She is the goddess of retribution and justice. She is both beautiful and fierce, and usually appears with eight arms carrying weapons and riding upon a tiger or a lion.
Eka: or Ek, meaning One, single.
Eka Pada Hastasana: The one leg posture.
Om Dum Durgayei Namaha
Used for protection from physical, mental and emotional harm and malevolence.
Used to increase the inner awareness and consciousness to be present in the moment.

~ is a fierce form of the Supreme Goddess, or Mahadevi, the manifestation of feminine power in the world. She's a badass warrior, riding on the back of a tiger, 18 arms holding weapons to slay the most formidable mental demons such as craving and clinging.
The fierce aspect of the universal Shakti or divine Mother, who destroys limitations and evil tendencies. She is often depicted as the eight-armed warrior goddess who rides a tiger and carries weapons.

So, in a way, we worship God Himself when we worship Bhagavati Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and principally Lakshmi on an occasion of this kind, the lighting up of the atmosphere on this occasion with a series of illuminating lamps.
Thou art Kali, Durga, Adisakti, Rajarajeswari, Tripurasundari, Maha-Lakshmi, Maha-Sarasvati! Thou hast put on all these names and forms. Thou hast manifested as Prana, electricity, force, magnetism, cohesion, gravitation in this universe. This whole universe rests in Thy bosom.
I bring Durga to mind, the powerful warrior goddess, who rides a lion into battle and conquers legions of demons. Durga maintains a sweet demeanour, a Divine ambience, as she destroys what stands in her wayfearless of being overpowered.
