Grihastha

Yoga GranthisGrihastha ashrama

Grihastha sannyasa, which I prefer to call karma sannyasa, is not a new order which I am introducing. It is very old. There are four traditional ashramas: brahmacharyashram, grihasthashram, vanaprasthashram and sannyasashram.

Grihastha: â s' r a m a of the married.
- Spiritual department relating to the life of a householder living according the scriptures.

GRIHASTHA"Householder.
Granthi"Knot.
Gulma"Chronic gastritis.
Guru"Spiritual preceptor.

The Grihastha Dharma recognize four goals known as the puruṣhārthas. They are: ...

grhasthasrama (Grihasthashram) [one of the four asramas]: the period of the householder.
grhyasutras (Grihyasutras) [ritual works containing directions for domestic rites and ceremonies].
Grihasthashram see grhasthastrama ...

Grihastha: A person at the second of the four stages of life, the stage of the householder.
Gunam: Inner beauty.
Gunas: The three (raja, tamas, sattva) basic qualities of nature that determine the inherent characteristics of all created things.

A Sannyasin cannot touch the feet of a Grihastha, for instance. A Sannyasin cannot prostrate himself before a householder. It was all forbidden and regarded as heresy. Swamiji was just the opposite of it.

Since the Grihasthas have their wives and because they think that Vajroli Mudra is a device for birth-control, they have a keen desire to practise this Mudra. It is all mere foolishness and delusion.
