As we saw in the previous sutra, Gunas are at the base of the entire universe. Each and every individual object is nothing but transformation of the three Gunas i.e.

In the unmanifested universe, energy has three qualities, known as Gunas, that exist together in equilibrium: Sattva (purity); Rajas (activity, passion, the process of change); and Tamas (darkness, inertia).

Gunas: the modes of material nature: t a m o -, r a j o - and s a t t v a - g u n a: ignorance, passion and goodness; marked by (respectively): matter (slowness), movement and knowledge.

Gunas: The three (raja, tamas, sattva) basic qualities of nature that determine the inherent characteristics of all created things. They are: purity, light, harmony and intelligence, activity and passion, and dullness, inertia and ignorance.

Gunas - Literally means qualities or attributes. According to the Samkhya philosophy, Prakriti (nature), in contrast with Purusha (soul), consists of three gunas known as sattva, rajas, and tamas.

One of the three gunas that compose the universe and all in it: The rajastic aspect refers to the human aspect in man ,in contrast to the animal and divine aspects in him. The rajastic guna is characterised by vibration, activity, and motion.

Here the three coils of which the Kundalini Yoga speaks are the three Gunas and the three and a half coil are the Prakriti and its three Gunas, together with the Vikritis. Her 50 coils are the letters of the Alphabet.

From a yogic standpoint, AUM represents the three gunas or attributes of Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. Within later Hinduism, it can represent the Hindu trinity of Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu.

There are three gunas residing there, sattva, rajas, and tamas. Sushrut has stated that ... If it is wounded, there is immediate death. There is a lung on either side. It is like a lotus whose mouth is below. Sushrut has described it in this fashion.

Adharma is best understood as an imbalance in the three gunas, the three primary cosmic forces responsible for all manifestations. When either sattva (conscious energy), tamas (inertia), or rajas (motion) are dominant adharma takes birth.

It pierces also the three Granthis or knots differentiated through the three modes of Nature or Gunas. The three Granthis or knots are Vishnu Granthi, Brahma Granthi and Rudra Granthi. This Kumbhaka is called Bhastrika.

The Yogic diet will help you attain a high standard of health, keen intellect and serenity of mind. To really understand the Yogic approach to diet one has to get familiar with the concept of the 3 Gunas or qualities of nature.
