Hatha yoga, in current times, is mainly practiced for health and vitality. It's a marvelous means of exercising, stretching, and freeing the body so it can be a healthy, long-lived, and vital instrument of the mind and soul.

Hatha yoga (Sanskrit हठयो-), also known as Hatha Vidya (हठविद्या), is a particular system of Yoga introduced by Yogi Swatmarama, a sage of 15th century India, and compiler of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

Hatha Yoga Balance
In Sanskrit, ha means sun, tha means moon. Hatha yoga is the practice of harmonizing the body's inner currents (principally the currents of Feeling, Thinking, Willing, and Acting) until they are in perfect balance.

Hatha Yoga is a physical exercise regime that utilizes different "poses" called asanas, for the purpose of strengthening, opening, and cleansing the body. These asanas can be categorized by the movement they create in the body.
