If we are afraid, lack self-confidence and self-esteem, or suffer from any of the other manifestations of a closed heart chakra, we try to protect ourselves by physically bending in at the heart center.

This is the same motion described so much in asana practice to open the arm pit chest complex and shoulder girdle.

Anahata Chakra: The fourth chakra, also called the Venus Chakra or Heart Chakra is located behind the heart. It is the center of compassion, love and devotion.

The heart chakra, or fourth chakra leads us to the path. We must first pass through the chakra of love, responding to all beings with love and compassion, to continue the journey upward of higher consciousness.

Kamala is located in the heart chakra, which is the seat of devotional worship.

Each of you places your right hand on your partner's heart chakra and your left hand atop your partner's right hand. Tune in to your heart: first, your physical heart, and then the emotion and energy of your heart chakra.

Anahata, or Anahata-puri, or padma-sundara is symbolised by a circular flower with twelve green petals.

Thus, you are linked to cosmic space at the throat chakra, linked to cosmic air at the heart chakra, linked to cosmic fire in the manipura-chakra, linked to cosmic water in swadhishtana-chakra, and linked with cosmic earth in muladhara-chakra.

For more emotional people, use the Anahata or Heart Chakra. Never change this focal point.
Focus on a neutral or uplifting object, holding the image in the place of concentration.

If symptoms of fatigue, depression and heart palpitations are present, the qi or energy of the heart center may be weak, and heart opening poses such as Cobra, Pigeon, Fish, Boat, Bow and Bridge would both strengthen and calm the heart chakra.
