The Hero Posture
In Sanskrit word vira means hero, brave or eminent man, or warrior. The way a brave man takes position while attacking his enemy, the similar position is formed in this asana, hence it is called as Vira Asana or The Hero Posture.

The Hero Pose (Vira-asana) Instruction:

Kneel on the floor with the calves and tops of the feet flat on the floor and the thighs touching.

Virasana
From a seated position, cross one knee over the other, bringing each foot to the outside of the opposite hip. Place your palms on the soles of your feet.

Hero Pose (Virasana)
One of the fundamental seated postures is the Hero Pose. This serves as the initial position for several Asanas. It strengthens the arches of the feet, stretches the ankles, and improves posture.
