Lotus Position: Padmasana, or Lotus Pose, named so because the position puts the souls of the feet up, reminiscent of a lotus flower. The prime position for meditation, it is the most renowned of all Hatha Yoga postures.
Maha: meaning Great.

There are a number of classic seated poses: Easy Seated Pose: sitting cross-legged on the floor; sitting in Half Lotus or Lotus position; or kneeling in "Japanese-style".

this position is the first of the lotus positions, sensitive knees need to move very slowly with lotus.

Sit straight in any comfortable position either with legs crossed or in a lotus position. Exhale whatever breath in the lungs.
Inhale slowly, relaxing the abdomen allowing the air to return gently to the lungs.

It doesn't matter how long you can sit in the lotus position. You can hold your mala for fifteen years and still be wrestling with the mind.

The Lotus Position is a complete relaxation position and if you can do it comfortably it is a perfect meditation posture. While you are in this position you are breathing slowly which allows your body and your soul to renew.

After being seated either in the Lotus position or in Sukhasana, bring both the hands at the back. Grab the wrist of one hand with the other hand.

Try the pose with the bent leg in a Half-Lotus position.
