Sit in the lotus posture, with your right foot on the left thigh and left foot on the right thigh as shown in figure. Sit erect with the knees touching the floor.

You may also have come across some pictures, though they are very rare, of Shiva seated in lotus posture. Half of his body is Shiva and half is Shakti.

On 7 August 1949, he experienced a vision of a tall Jangama Sage (ancient order of ascetics) with matted hair, who told him to sit in padmasana (lotus posture), and close his eyes.

Response: First of all, being able to sit in the Lotus posture is not a sign of spiritual advancement. It is, however, the most stable sitting position for meditation. Lotus makes it easy to sit straight.

For example, there is a session of meditation and you are asked to sit in Lotus posture (Padmasana) or just with legs cross (Sukhasana). After a few minutes, in eyes closed state, you feel some itching or some fly on your body.

Headstand Pose (sir-shah-sa-na) Sirsha-asana - The Sanskrit word sirsha means head. This posture is the well-known headstand posture, and perhaps second only to the padma-asana or lotus posture, is widely identified with the practice of Yoga.

The physical effect of the Yoga Mudra is mainly internal purification, as it helps keep our system clean by promoting a good elimination. To do the Yoga Mudra you must first sit down in the Lotus Posture.
