Mahatmas have no positions,
They have no arguments.
How can those who have no positions themselves
Have positions vis-a-vis others?

In his childhood Pujya Bapuji Mahatma Gandhi also entertained deep fear of ghosts.

An example of persons like Mahatma Gandhi who could fast up to 21 days and still retain his regular bowel movements through specific exercises called yogasanas. Thus we have enormous capacity to control our basic reflexes.

After all, aren't most yogis vegetarians who refuse to harm animals, and wasn't the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi a beacon of non-violence for the twentieth century?

MAHATMA: Great soul
MAITRI: Friendship.
MANAS: Mind.
MANONASA: Destruction of mind.
MANTRA: Sacred syllable or word, or set of words through the repetition and reflection of which one attains perfection.
MAYA: The illusive power of God.

God did speak to the world through India 's Rishis, Yogis, Mahatmas, Alvars, prophets, Acharyas, Sannyasins and saints. Their teachings are really inspired. God is the one Light and Truth from whom emanate the teachings of all faiths.

vasudevah sarvam iti sa mahatma sudurlabhah very rare is the great soul who knows that Vasudeva, the omnipresent being, is all that is. [Gita 7.19]
vasudha [earth]; all earth-life.
vasudhaiva kutumbakam the whole earth is (my) family.

Mahatma Gandhi's daily prayer was to be lower than the dust on his feet. When you attain higher consciousness you will feel no inclination to exalt your ego. You simply don't have a desire to dominate others or exalt yourself.

Sanjaya said: Lord Krishna, having thus spoken to Arjuna, revealed His four-armed form. Then assuming His gentle human form, Mahatma Krishna consoled Arjuna who was terrified. (11.50) ...

Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Yogananda had given up salt for over thirteen years. Giving up salt helps you in controlling the tongue and thereby the mind also and in developing will-power too. You will have good health.

One who has studied Vedas and who has direct knowledge of Atman through Anubhava can only be considered a Guru. If you can find peace in the presence of a Mahatma, and if your doubts are removed by his very presence you can take him as your Guru.
