Who was Manu? Manu is considered to have been an actual human figure and the beginner of human history. Titled swayambhu, or self-born, he is believed to have been the first progeny of the Creator or Brahma.

But this fire also has an anointing quality as it is reveled that the fire is 'born of Manu and a light that anoints' (Rg Veda 1.45.1) Being born of Manu represents many qualities but is also commonly taught to be a reference to the mind.
