Parvati said, 'You give boons to almost anybody, whether they need them or not, whether they use or misuse them. But because I asked you to help these poor people, you will not.' So, to make Parvati happy, Shiva said, 'Alright, let us see.

Ganesha is a son of lord Shiva and Parvati. When Shiva was coming back from his "Samadhi", he didn't know that Ganesha was his son. Ganesha didn't let lord Shiva in the house because mother Parvati was bathing.

"I salute the primeval Lord (Siva) who taught (Parvati) the Hatha Yoga Vidya, which is as a stairway to those who wish to attain the lofty Raja Yoga." (I:1) "I salute the primeval Lord.

The story is as follows, that Lord Siva was teaching yoga to his consort, Parvati, as they sat near the ganges. A little fish in the river eavesdropped on the teachings that Siva was giving to Parvati and comprehended yoga.

It is a knowledge which was given by Lord Shiva himself to Parvati when she asked him how would humans find liberation from the cycle of birth & death. Siva Samhita is a treatise of his answer in dialogue form between Shiva & Parvati.

It is related that once Lord Siva went to a lonely island and explained to his consort Parvati the mysteries of Yoga. A fish near shore heard everything with concentration and remained motionless while listening.
