pramana [one of the sadanga]: proportion, arrangerlent of line and mass, design, harmony, perspective. pramatha [one of a class of demons attending on Siva]. pramathanatha lord of the demoniac, [Siva].
Pramana need not be something concrete; it need not be something which we are able to grasp intellectually, because the mind functions on many levels, the vibratory level being one.

In striving to penetrate the deepest arcane meaning of the sacred texts, Mimansa thinkers accepted the four pramanas or modes of knowledge set forth in Nyaya, and added two others: arthapatti or postulation, and abhava or negation and non-existence.
