Meditation
Generally, the picture of a meditation that comes to one's mind is that of a person sitting erect with eyes closed.

Pratyayataḥ (lit, from faith): the Hindu holy scriptures, the Vedas, are regarded as the source of eternal knowledge. Their knowledge is free from fallacies and are widely believed as a source of proof.

ekatma-pratyaya-saram Whose substance is the certitude of One Self. [Mand. 7]
ekatvam anupasyatah [of him] who sees everywhere oneness. [Isa 7] ...

Pratya comes from the word pratyaya. Pratyaya are the internal seeds, the basic tendencies in our nature which are there from birth to death. They are the basis of our personality. The word ahara means food or nutrition.

Similarly, by directing his yogic focus on the pratyaya or content of any mind functioning through a set of vestures, he can cognize that mental condition.

Pratibha: Intuition.
Pratipaksha: Opposite.
Pratiptasava: Becoming latent.
Pratyahara: Abstraction of the senses.
Pratyaya: Cause; mental effort; imitation; idea of distinction.
Pravritti: Activity.
Prayatna: Effort.
