Sthiti: Prone Posture
PRACTICE
Bend the knees and hold the ankles by the palms.

In a practice sequence, Ustrasana fits nicely after warm-ups and the standing poses as you come down to the floor to begin sitting, supine, and prone postures.

The majority of pone poses are backbends, which are known to energize the body and tonify the kidneys. Prone postures are simple enough for beginners, yet can be very challenging to hold for longer periods.

Even if your head goes nowhere near your feet, drop it back as far as possible and hold the posture with deep breathing. Come out of the posture very slowly, returning to the face prone posture. Relax with your head to one side. Repeat.
