The root chakra at the base of the spine; the centre for the earth element; the centre that is the base of worship for the Kaula school of Tantra.

Energy channel; one of the subtle channels of the body.

Muladhara, or Root Chakra, is located at the base of the spine. It is symbolized by the color red and a lotus with four petals. Muladhara represents the center of instincts, stability of mind and body, survival and self-sufficiency.

Muladhara or root chakra is represented as a yellow square, with 4 red petals. The seed syllable is Lam, the deity is Ganesh, and the Shakti is Dakini. The associated animal is the elephant Ganesha.

Mountain Pose: See Tadasana Muladhara Chakra: The first chakra, also called the Saturn Chakra or Root Chakra is located at the base of the coccyx in the lower spine. It is the center of physical vitality and energy.

The place of the Moon in the human body is in our Head and the place of Sun is below the Root chakra . The Sun is meant for the Wisdom and the Moon represents the Mind.

The Root Chakra deals with our family, survival, and shelter. It is located at the root of the spine, the perineum, at the anal plexus.
2. The Sacral Chakra is our partnership chakra.

Some systems link the root chakra with the adrenal glands even though the adrenals are located above the kidneys back of the navel.

The practitioner visualizes pulling the energy from the root chakra, or tailbone, up the spinal column to the heart center or more preferably the ajna chakra (6th chakra). During exhalation the lock is relaxed.

Mulabandha is the bandha at the root chakra (Muladhara chakra). It contains the energy in the bodymind and allows for its support.

Virasana is a very grounding seated pose so it brings balance to the root chakra (first chakra).
